S1E11 : 17 Years
When I was 8 years old, my mother died in a car accident, and until recently, I thought that was the defining moment in my life. I didn’t realize that the real moment would come 17 years later. We usually think of second chances as a way to move on, move forward. But I think second chances are about acceptance. That’s why they are so rare, because accepting who you are and what you really loved isn’t as easy as you like to think. But more often than not, it brings us to places we should have been coming to all along.
S1E12 : Ready Player Two
Sometimes, life takes us on a journey to find an answer we didn’t even know we were looking for. When it comes to me, I have no idea if it’s Henry Chase or Simon Hayes who’s behind the God Account, or why I was chosen for all of this. But that’s part of life too. Sometimes we just have to accept that the answers we think we need, we may never find. All I know is I am willing to keep following this path because I am on this with some very amazing people, and together, I think we can really make a difference in the world.
S1E13 : Miracle on 123rd Street
The idea of family represents something different to all of us. For some, it’s the community of people who depend on you for strength and guidance. For others, its the unbreakable bond between a brother and a sister. And yes, sometimes those family bonds can get fractured or even forgotten, but as long as you never give up on them, you can always find your way back. And if you’re lucky, the family you have, and the family you find become one and the same.
S1E14 : The Trouble with the Curve
There are many paths life can take you on, but for most of us, where we end up isn’t always where we imagined our lives would turn out. So it is only natural for us to question how we got here. We all have moments from our past, decisions we made that even years later we still wonder about, still question. “What would have happened if I had done things differently?”. The big decisions we recognize in the moment we know the magnitude and weight they carry in moving forward. What we might have lost if we hadn’t made the decision to act? Sometimes people come into our lives at just the right time, preparing us for the future, whatever it may hold. But I think the most difficult decisions we’re faced with are not about success or failure, but finding the courage to simply try again.
S1E15 : Two Guys, a Girl and a Thai Food Place
Stepping into the unknown is never easy. There is always that inner voice telling you to hold back from making a big commitment, or moving into the next chapter of your life. Sometimes, you just need to be reminded of what you already have and trust that it is worth fighting for. Because when you do, you will be amazed at the results.
S1E16 : Scenes From an Italian Restaurant
It’s easy to think of new beginnings as something that just happens when the time is right, life’s way wiping the slate clean to allow us to change course. But the truth is new beginnings are never easy. They usually remind us of where we’ve been, as much where we’re headed, what we have to sacrifice, to leave behind, if we choose to continue on. And is there a point in the journey where it’s simply too late to change course even if you wanted to? In the end, trying to change course is more about realizing you never needed to, and that’s okay.
S1E17 : The Dragon Slayer
Lately I’ve thinking about the meaning of home, and home can be so much more than just a roof over your head. Home can be that feeling you have when everything in life finally comes together, or a place you can fill with beautiful memories. You know, home isn’t always guaranteed. It’s something you might have to fight hard for, even sacrifice for, something that needs to be preserved and protected. Because there is nothing better than having a place that you can share with the people you love.
S1E18 : Return to Sender
The heart is capable of extraordinary things. It gives us life, makes us feel love, and in some cases, can be passed on. It’s memory is kept alive, and of course, the heart is also full of mystery. It can remind you of who you are, or tear you into directions. And sure, along the way the heart is bound to pick up scars, painful reminders of past, but if you trust it, follow it where it wants you to go, it will always lead you in the right direction.
Some personal comments on E19 & E20
Okay, so these two episodes did not have “the monologue ending”. They were sort of dedicated to the mystery of the God Account. But there were some beautiful things which were said, and some beautiful happenings which happened. I think they deserve a place in this post.
E19 : The Road to Damascus
This is my favourite scene from this episode. When Miles asks Cara if her apologizing and justifying for her lie made her right, she gave one hell of a beautiful answer :
No, that makes me human.
We as humans are prone to make mistakes. All of us do. How we come about it when we realize it, that’s what makes us human, what makes us believe that we have a heart. A heart for guilt and change.
E20 : Que Sera Sera
This episode brought together three best friends who had differences for over ten years.
Look at the image above. Two generations of people, ones who wanted to change the world on right, ones who were doing it right now on the left. This episode taught me one thing, that if it is not too much to ask, try forgiving. Forgiving doesn’t mean forgetting. It just means that you are willing to give another try for something you think is valuable. Henry, Priya, and Simon set out to change the world, but they never got the chance. Greed got hold of Simon, and anger got over Henry. This thing made the world wait 10 years for what they were supposed to do. But they changed. Change is beautiful if you give it a try for those who deserve it. Simon’s change of heart about not selling his software made him deserving for Henry’s and Priya’s forgiveness. Now they could do what they had dreamt about.
Similarly, Arthur’s change of heart for Miles’ work and Miles’ change of heart about faith brought them together. Be it God or no God, a miracle did happen over the last eight months, which mended seventeen years of scars and pain. If that’s not worth the change, I don’t know what is.
